Episcopal Community Services of the Diocese of New Jersey (ECSNJ) will host its fundraising gala on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Pines Manor in Edison, NJ from 6-9 pm. With the theme, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me,” the evening will highlight the transformative work of ECS-NJ and its partners, while raising funds to support ministries that serve migrant and immigrant families and other vulnerable communities across the state.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit ECS-NJ’s vital ministries, including the newly launched Sacred Space Safe Access Grant (SSSA), created in partnership with the Diocese of New Jersey and supported by the Diocesan Council. This initiative provides grants for churches and justice ministries within the Diocese of New Jersey that serve vulnerable communities currently facing targeted fear and intimidation. The grant empowers congregations to ensure safe, welcoming spaces for worship and essential services.
“The Sacred Space Safe Access Grant is a bold step in ensuring that our congregations can be both a sanctuary and service hub,” said The Rev. Tammy Young, ECS-NJ Administrative Director. “It allows us to respond with compassion and preparedness, making sure people can access, worship and basic needs resources in a safe and welcoming environment.”
The Rt. Rev. Sally French, 13th Bishop of the Diocese of New Jersey, is the Honorary Chair of the ECS-NJ Gala and has played a leading role in the development of the SSSA initiative. Her vision and commitment to Gospel Justice are reflected in both the grant and the mission of ECS-NJ.
This year’s gala will honor three individuals and organizations whose work exemplifies compassion and Gospel justice: St. George’s by the River Episcopal Church in Rumson, one of ECS-NJ’s founding congregations, for their longstanding dedication to community service and Gospel-rooted outreach. Catherine Ambos and Canon Clara Gregory, for their courageous and sustained advocacy on behalf of migrant families throughout the Diocese of New Jersey.
“The Gala is more than a celebration, it’s a call to action,” said Fr. Dave Snyder, Co-Chair of the Gala Steering Committee. “By coming together in fellowship and generosity, we are helping build a future where every person, especially those seeking safety and belonging can thrive with dignity.”
ECS-NJ acknowledges the generous support of our early sponsors: Dr. Rosina Dixon, Tom Bartlett, and Glenmede Wealth Management, whose commitment is helping make the gala, and the ministries it uplifts, possible. Activities to commemorate the event include an ECS-NJ Gala Journal, cocktail hour, dinner, a paddle raise and more.
ECS-NJ continues to support ministries addressing food insecurity, immigrant services, housing justice, and more. In 2024, ECS-NJ awarded $95,000 in grants to projects working directly with underserved communities. The Sacred Space Safe Access Grant expands this impact by ensuring that those ministries are also safe and welcoming.
